Pololu Valley

My dad brought us to a hike down to a black sand beach. All over the trail there were signs saying “Danger! Cliffs could fall into the water” or “Warning! Strong riptides and big waves!” The hike was very steep and had lots of roots and rocks on it. We had done this hike the last time we were in Hawaii about 4 years ago. We got to the bottom and swam in the water as the waves were calm today.

When we got out of the water, we walked along the path next to some small man made hills. The park service man at the top of the hike said they were burial mounds. The last time we had done this hike we were allowed to play on the hills because nobody knew they were burial mounds but now we weren’t allowed to go on them out of respect for the dead. In the picture below, the mound on the left is a burial mound.

When we started going back up, Sy and Griffin started getting tired and whiny so my dad bribed us with gummies. He said anyone who could run up the rest of the hill would get 3 big gummies. Of course, Sy and I ran up the rest of the way up but the hike was really steep and we were hot and tired at the top.

After the hike we got lunch at a random place on the side of the road. They had the BEST smoothies ever and I got two.

    Hi Marin!

Can you give me a list of the smoothie ingredients? It looks so refreshing!

I remember this hike like it was yesterday! I hiked down the hill, fed a Chichi a bottle,; and went right back up by myself at my pace while you all travelled on! It was hot & hard but beautiful! And those smoothies were divine!

Looks like a challenging but fun hike! How is the water temperature in Hawaii? It looks like Trey went swimming so I’m assuming not too cold?

Those smoothies look great. Those random places on the side of the road are often the best 🙂
