Pyramids and Camels

Last updated on February 8, 2022

Yesterday, we went to see some of the pyramids in Egypt. We have a guide who tells us a lot about the history of Egypt. Each pyramid has only one king or queen inside it. The first pyramid we visited is named Khufu. Khufu has a flat top and is smaller than it originally was because the Egyptians took stones off the pyramid to make other buildings.

The next pyramid we saw was named Khafre. We got to go inside it to the spot where the tomb is located. There was a long low tunnel down to a chamber and a corridor which opened into a room where the tomb was located. The roof of the corridors and tunnels weren’t high enough to stand up. There were slats on the floor to make it easier to get up and down because it was so steep. When we started going down the tunnel I thought about what would happen if the rocks caved in on us but I was excited to explore the pyramid. My mom didn’t come in with us because she’s claustrophobic sometimes. Our tour guide had told us that each stone weighs between 2 and 15 tons. As we were going down the tunnel Griffin started to get scared because in some areas the lights wen’t working. It was really dark in some parts.

After the second pyramid, we went out farther into the desert to ride camels. Because my brothers were too little, my parents rode with them. I got to ride one of the camels on my own. You get on the camel when it’s kneeling down on the ground. You have to hold on because if you don’t you’ll fall off when the camel stands up. Camels are about 9 feet tall. The camel stands up first with its back legs tilting you far forward. Then it tilts you really far back as it stands up with its front legs. When camels walk they lurch around making the ride very bumpy.
